Wild Garlic Woods

Lucy Saggers

Wild garlic carpets the woodland in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, in many places outcompeting bluebells. Here the snaking path through the budding plant blanket leads me home through the sun-bathed wooded slope.

Walking my dogs most days through these woods, known as The Waites, I watch and smell the progress of the annual blooming of this locally abundant wild garlic phenomenon.

Photographed using a Canon 5D Mark iii with 35mm lens.
